Last week, the US Department of State announced visa sanctions against the sitting Paraguayan vice president (and presidential hopeful) Hugo Adalberto Velázquez Moreno and his associate, Juan Carlos Duarte. Velázquez reportedly requested Duarte deliver a bribe exceeding $1 million to obstruct an investigation into his financial interests.
