Initial data show Mexico had 35,484 homicides in 2020, just barely down from the 35,616 recorded by the SESNSP in 2019. That is about a 0.4% reduction. 

The AMLO government tried to take a victory lap for what it said were improved security statistics. In contrast, Alejandro Hope wrote last week:
